Technical Interview Preparation

We are researchers at Virginia Tech exploring ways to improve the behavior, productivity, and decision-making of software engineers. This study seeks to learn about how software engineering job candidates prepare for technical interviews. Technical interviews are the primary method software engineers are evaluated by companies for careers. However, research suggests candidates often experience stress and frustration with current interview processes. As hiring processes are unlikely to change, we are aiming to understand preparation processes to determine if current practice methods are the best approach in ensuring success in technical interviews. The goals of this work will uncover the most popular preparation resources in addition to providing implications for improving future preparation tools and to see how universities can provide support to adequately prepare students for tech interviews.
